Just over a year ago I opened my home studio with no guaranteed existing client base, no team and zero guarantee it would work.
I had just closed my salon of 11 years.
Everything I had spent over a decade building was gone.
And I was starting again from scratch, 3 days a week, working around school hours, as a solo mum.
Today my studio is fully booked.
Not by luck
Not by hoping the phone would ring
By being intentional about every single decision I made from day one and building the right systems underneath everything I was doing.
I want to share some of those systems with you today.
Because if I can do this, rebuilding from nothing with school hours and no team and no safety net, so can you.
A clear client journey with consistent communication:
Every client, new or returning, experiences the same warm, professional and consistent communication before and after their visit. Most beauty businesses skip this completely. That consistency is what makes clients feel valued enough to come back and tell others.
A new client welcome text:
Every new client receives a text before their first visit with everything they need to know. It removes uncertainty, builds excitement and sets the tone before they even walk through the door. First impressions start long before the appointment.
A follow up text within 24 hours:
Within 24 hours of every new client's visit I send a personal follow up. Thanking them and checking in. This one step alone has been one of the biggest drivers of retention in my studio. Nobody else does it, which is exactly why it works.
Asking for Google reviews consistently:
Reviews build trust with people who have never met you. I ask consistently, make it easy, and keep my Google Business Profile completely up to date. When someone searches for me, what they find reflects the real experience of being in my studio.
Upselling additional treatments:
Most of my clients book multiple treatments, not just one. That did not happen by accident. It happened because I understand my ideal client, know what she wants, and make it easy for her to book more. My average booking value is high because I built it that way intentionally.
Monthly membership options:
Memberships create predictable, recurring income and give clients a reason to commit to coming back regularly. Introducing memberships was one of the best decisions I made in my first year.
An 80 percent rebooking rate:
Eight out of every ten clients rebook before they leave. Not by luck. Because rebooking is a natural, comfortable part of every single appointment. And for anyone who does not rebook, I have a follow up system to keep communication open.
Knowing exactly who my ideal client is:
Every piece of content, every post, every marketing decision I make is built around one specific person. When you know exactly who you are talking to, your message lands differently. You stop attracting everyone and start attracting the right people.
Making it easy to book:
An online booking system that is quick and simple to use. An up to date website. An active Google Business Profile. When someone decides they want to book, there are zero barriers in the way. Friction costs bookings. Remove the friction.
None of this is complicated. But all of it is intentional.
And these are exactly the kinds of systems I help beauty business owners build inside my mentoring programme and Power Hour calls.
If you want help putting these into your own beauty business, I would love to work with you.
